Not far from the busy Marienfelder Allee you can reach the relaxing village meadow with the estate park and the old village church. The idyll is framed by low, historic buildings and the manor house from 1832. One of the three locations of the scientifically independent Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), founded in 2002, is located here. The former manor house was built by Adolf Kiepert and is part of the 12 office and administration buildings that are used alongside laboratories, animal stables and fish farming facilities on 11,000m². Kiepert (1820-1892) was an economist and politician and founded the “German Agricultural Society” together with Max Eyth in 1885. Here we come full circle. The BfR was founded after the BSE cattle disease crisis to strengthen credibility with consumers. Over 1,000 employees work at the BfR. The outdoor lighting on the site has now been renewed. The balancing act between monument protection and efficient LED lights was achieved with the 59 wall lights and 13 pole lights MONA. Instead of the previous 83W, only 17W is now required thanks to directional lens technology. In some cases, light barriers were used to prevent backward light from entering windows or to protect nature. In accordance with nature conservation requirements, the lighting is in warm white light. The MONA lamp head made of cast aluminum, with the short, slim arm and round wall plate, blends wonderfully into the image of the new and old clinker brick buildings.
