THE LIGHT OF ALFONS RIDES ALONG THE NEW CYCLE PATH

In June 2025, the largest subsidized cycle path project in Saxony-Anhalt to date was completed between Bismark and Kalbe. The new path stretches 14.5 kilometres, connecting not only two towns and two districts, but also creating new opportunities for climate-friendly mobility. It follows the route of a former narrow-gauge railway, whose tracks were in use for over 100 years. Today, it’s not trains but bicycles that travel here—safely and comfortably, even in the dark. Lighting during night hours is provided by ALFONS I from LEIPZIGER LEUCHTEN, equipped with state-of-the-art sensors and tailored to the needs of forward-looking infrastructure. Thanks to the CLEVER LIGHT HUB with integrated motion sensor, the path is illuminated in compliance with regulations only when it is in use and cyclists are present. Light where and when it is needed. With the “running light” principle, the luminaires follow the movement—for greater safety and an energy-saving, dynamic lighting concept. This enables municipalities to save up to 95% in energy while also protecting the surrounding natural environment from light pollution. The opening of the new intelligent cycle path was recently celebrated in Bismark. CLIMATE-FRIENDLY LIGHT THAT CONNECTS.
